My verdict. The HeidelbergCard is the right purchase for exactly one kind of visitor: someone staying overnight who will ride trams and buses and wants the castle ticket folded in. For that person it is genuinely convenient. For a day visitor who only wants the castle, it is the wrong purchase, and I say so on the HeidelbergCard page as well. The 4.2 from 388 reviews is not an accident — the collection step confuses some buyers, and this is the one product on this site that is non-refundable.
What the card actually contains
More than most buyers realise. The castle ticket with the Bergbahn round trip as far as Molkenkur. Unlimited VRN public transport — buses, trams and regional trains across the Rhine-Neckar network, not just the city.
